The idea

The camera becomes a battery gauge

Every iPhone has a hole in the display it can't use. Aureole traces it.

A ring follows the exact shape of your camera housing and fills with your battery level — green while you have charge, amber as it gets low, blue while it's charging. On a Dynamic Island it closes into a full ring. On a notch, which sits flush with the top edge, it opens into an arc around the three sides that are actually screen.

The placement is fitted to your exact iPhone, from iPhone X through the current line. If it doesn't sit quite right on your device, nudge it into place and Aureole remembers.

OLED

Burn-in protection

An OLED keeps a faint ghost of anything bright held in one place. Aureole drifts its layout imperceptibly and dims in stages, so it can run all evening without leaving a mark.

Bytes sent anywhere

There is no networking code in the app at all. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no third-party SDKs. Nothing can leave, because nothing can send.

Fewer redraws

The screen only redraws when the minute actually changes, not once a second. Black backgrounds light almost no pixels at all.
