The camera becomes a battery gauge

Every iPhone has a hole in the display it can't use. Aureole traces it.

A ring follows the exact shape of your camera housing and fills with your battery level — green while you have charge, amber as it gets low, blue while it's charging. On a Dynamic Island it closes into a full ring. On a notch, which sits flush with the top edge, it opens into an arc around the three sides that are actually screen.

The placement is fitted to your exact iPhone, from iPhone X through the current line. If it doesn't sit quite right on your device, nudge it into place and Aureole remembers.

Burn-in protection

An OLED keeps a faint ghost of anything bright held in one place. Aureole drifts its layout imperceptibly and dims in stages, so it can run all evening without leaving a mark.

Bytes sent anywhere

There is no networking code in the app at all. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no third-party SDKs. Nothing can leave, because nothing can send.

Fewer redraws

The screen only redraws when the minute actually changes, not once a second. Black backgrounds light almost no pixels at all.

Common questions

Why a full ring on some iPhones and an arc on others?

A Dynamic Island floats about 11 points below the top edge, so a ring can close around it. A notch sits flush with that edge — there is no screen above it — so Aureole traces the three sides that are actually display.

Can the battery percentage go inside the ring?

No. The space inside is the camera cutout, which is hardware rather than screen — anything drawn there is masked out by iOS. The figure sits just below the housing instead.

Which iPhones are supported?

Thirty-two models, from iPhone X through the current line. Anything newer than the build falls back to an estimate you can nudge into place, and Aureole remembers it for that device.

Does it collect anything?

No. There is no networking code in the app, so nothing can be sent. Battery level, calendar events and any background photo you pick stay on the device. Read the policy.
